"A Mission Is Like The Hunger Games" BUT LESS DEPRESSING haha

Hey everyone!
Not sure if this is already posted on my blog, but if so here it is again!

So my companions boyfriend sent her this comparison between the mission and The Hunger Games and we were having a little laugh about it: La Lucha Es Real (the struggle is real). Im gonna try and rewrite it haha

The mission is like the hunger games, first you yell "I volunteer as tribute" coz you wanna sacrifice everything you have, even if it is only to save just one brother or sister. Then the whole town gathers around as you read from a piece of paper and the salute your bravery when you announce youre off to south america.
Then it is time to leave, you have no idea what you are in for, you say goodbye to your family with tears feeling like it is going to be ages before you see them again.
Then you arrive at the Missionary Training and you are FED LIKE KINGS and are pretty comfortable. All the other missionaries/tributes are there and you get to work learning how to survive out in the field. Your new missionary clothes are all shinny and clean.
Too soon the time at the MTC is up and you are picked up to be taken to your mission. You have no idea where youre gonna end up, in a town? Country? Seaside? Island off the coat? It could be anywhere within your area! You arive and are assigned to you area. Wheny ou get tehre you make allies and give everything that you have to the work. Letters from people back home arive in the mailbox like those parcels that fall from the sky in the movie and it is like the biggest blessing.
Every now and again the cannon goes off and you hear that someone went home (Not coz they died though haha), maybe they got sick or injured or didnt want to do it anymore, or maybe their time came to an end. They generally leaev you with all their stuff so thats a bonus coz were so poor haha.
Then it is time to go home, you survived! You go home with tattered clothes and shoes and are greeted with honor. Everyone has new expectations of who you are the strength that you have emocionally and especially spiritually.

BUTTTT.....

Unlike the hunger games though, we serve a mission because although we know it is hard we know that it is worth it. We CHOOSEto serve a mission and would choose it all over again. Because the miracles we see are better than any of the tough times that we face and the one person who youre able to help learn this amazing truth is better than the 100 people who reject you. We are promised blessing for ourselves and our families and we can see it before we have barely even begun the mission. The people that we help, the companions that we have and friends that we make are to be in our hearts for ever. I LOVE BEING A MISSIONARY, even though it is a battlefield out here.

Anyway...
This week was crazy! We got locked out of our house on tuesday which was a little funny nd a little sad. The gate was broken and we couldnt get in! We had to sit and wait for someone to come and fix. The repareman brought his daughters with him and they wanna be missionaries when the grow up so we let them wear our badges and they were super happy!

We rescued a kitte! But we arent allowed pets which is like the saddest rule that exists haha. But it is soo cute! A member family has her now and the way the 2 year old thinks it is a toy freaks me out! Her name is Gatitia! (which means little cat- Original I know haha)

We had companionship exchanged, I had to have 24 hours without Hermana Orgill which was sad coz we are BFFL now. But the trainer to came with me said that she had nothign to tell me I could improve on and that she is going to tell president that I should be made a trainer next transfer. I hope not though, coz I wanna stay with Hermana Orgill.

Chuch was crashed durring the sacrement on sunday by a totally drunk guy that wandered in off the street, walked right up to the pulpit and interupted the bishops speach to try and sell some vegetables.... it was probably the most halarious and also most embarassing thing that has happened yet haha. We had a family with us who are investigating the church and we wre just sitting there like, "How do we even explain this?" haha. But they understood haha.

Hermana Orgill and I had a halarious day today, we had bana chocolate chip pancakes for lunch and then went to have a siesta but ended up talking for 2 hours.
I kinda broke the curtain and she got it on camera falling on me we used the curtain as a superhero cape for a while  (shout out to Elder Turner) and then managed to fix it haha.

I hope that you all are well!! Time is flying! In like 3 months I will be 21! If you wanna send me a card (rememebr they are like those presents from the sky in Hunger Games) then you probably wanna send it now. It will take a month to get here and then we only see the people who recieve our mail every 6 weeks!

Love you all loads,

Hermana Wilson

I love Olmos!

Hey Peoples!!

I dont have much time to write, but here is a few bits cut from emails to my family.

This week was amazing!

There is a family here, The Cristobal family, that we are teaching that are just amazing, they call us their Gaurdian Angels and feel so honoured when we visit. We went to visit them for lunch today, they live in a one room shackbut they went all out to make it tidy and pretty for us. They had crates for chairs but covered them in blankets and they had flowers on the table and cooked us a roast. We felt so bad, the food they prepared for us probably cost them all they had for the week. The even kept their kids home from school so that they would be there to listen to our message and eat with us. They are the family that have the green house and always send us home with vegetables. I gave the mum this NZ straw hat and she was so excited about it.
It really makes one think about how lucky we are to have all the things that we have, and makes one realise that those materialistic things arent nessasary for true happiness, this family are so happy with their life, the family is super poor but they are all really close. They can eat from the greenhosues and they feel so lucky to have that. The daughter Angie is so sweet, she thinks we are her big sisters. I wish you guys could meet these people theyre so kind and so genuine.

My companion is great, we laugh a lot because I have been very clumbsy lately, I fall all the time!! But she literally an over a dog on her bike the other day, so that was pretty funny haha.

I am excited because in 3 weeks it will be mothers day and I can talk to my family!!! I am going to cry, I miss them loads.

And I miss you all too! I love you all so so much and I hope that everything is going well for each one of you!

Love,
Hermana Wilson

Fwd: I have been here almost 6 weeks!! cant believe it!

Hola everyone from the hot and humid Argentina!

I see miracles every day! I love my job as a missionary, it is so rewarding. I am really loving it here in Olmos now too, things are good! The first while was really hard, I was homesick and everything was different. But you know what is the same THE STARS!! An automatic reaction for me when I would go outside at night in NZ, was to look at the stars, here the stars are the same, I see the southern cross and remember my favourite country in the world and think of all the people there that I love.
Now that I know and love the members and we have found 8 more people to teach since I arrived, I am just loving it. Even though it is the hardest thing I have every done, I am so honored to wear the name Jesus Christ and the name Wilson above my heart. This work blesses peoples lives more than I ever knew, even knowing how much it blessed me.
Only 2 more weeks with my companion and she will be off home and I will have a new trainer and have to teach her the area. Good thing I like it here because I have at least 3 more months here, maybe 6 more.

Today we had a Zone activity in the park in the city. It was loads of fun, we chatted, played silly games and I got to spend the whole day in normal clothes, it was great haha. Hanging with all the missionaries is really fun, and I get to speak english a bit which isnice haha

Other than this things are petty normal in the missionary life. This week was sooooooo HOT! I was dying. You guys should see my super missionary tan lines. I dont burn here, just tan and get more freckles. But I am always sticky and sweaty which is kinda gross. Plus the mosquitos dont care ho9w much replent I wear, they just eat me alive!! It is pure torture, I dont know how to stop it! My companion is fine, they love my kiwi blood!
We had a few days without our bikes because first my tire punctured and then Hermana Ramos.....I will never complain about riding a bike again! The breeze we get and the spead we have on the bikes stops us getting to hot. Walking around for hours is pure torture!

I have some cool photos to send but we are in La Plata for the activity, so prepare yourselves for a bombardment of photos next week!

Thank you all for your support, love and emails!

Love you all,

Hermana Wilson

Fwd: Week 2 in the field!!

March 9th 2015

No much to report and no time to write this week!!

I am settling in much better thankfully.
We are teaching a few people and have 3 baptism dates, theyre not set in stone though, but I am praying my  heart out. I love them so much! I love ll the people we serve and teach.
All emotions are just magnified in the mission. My love for my family, friends, investigators.... it is as if the lord gives a taste of what it is like to love as purely as he does.

The mission isnt going to be easy, but I dont think that it was meant to be easy, it wasnt easy for christ and, this is mytime to walk through the refining fires.

It rained a few days so we were litterally wading through mud most days, it smells bad and is just everywhere, not cool. Wednesday night and thursday I spend about 30mins away in a town called Los Hornos, the female mission leaders do exchanges with the newbies and I had to go and work with her for a day and they check I am settling in alright, evaluate my work and help me set goals to improve. I was with Hermana Runulfson and she is really lovely. She is from Utah USA and has been on her mission 9 months. She had nothing but praise for me which was awesome and we set some goals to practice my spanish and teaching.
Other than that it has been a normal week.

Miss you all, I print all your emails but sorry if I cant reply! Ill get there eventually. Normally I have about 20 emails a week! an i can only replyto maybe 4

Lots of love

Hermana Wilson

P.S the photos are my companion in the muddy road and me infront of some grafity that says I love you Mica haha

Fwd: First Week In The Mission Field

March 2 2015

My First week has past and man was it HARD! I am pretty homesick to be honest! But I know this will pass. I love serving the people here, they are so nice and really humble and it warms my heart to be able to make a difference in their lives. We do a lot of service, but my favourite it to teach about the Gospel, nothing makes more of a difference in their lives than leading them into the arms of their Heavenly Father.

My companion and trainer is Hermana Ramos from Honduras. She has only one month left of her mission so I have the most experienced trainer. She calls me nena or hija, which is like my child or bubba haha. She looks after me well and we get along really well. But she leaves in a month which will leave me to introduce my new trainer to the area! I have to learn where to take everyone.

It was a really tough first week out in the mission field. I am living in a tiny town called Olmos in La Plata about 3 hours from Buenos Aires. It is a farming town and very poor. The roads are mostly dirt roads with rocks and potholes and we are biking everywhere, I am going to get really fit! There are flies and dogs and rubbish everywhere and half naked children just running everywhere. But the people are really lovely. The houses are mostly shacks that they build themselves and often about 5 different shacks will all share a bathroom.
Our flat is nice though, it has two bedrooms and two bathrooms, I feel very spoilt.

We only have hot water in the dowstairs bathroom. And we dont have a washing machine so we have to hand wash everything in an ourdoor sink. Hermana Ramos had a new zealand companion before me, a tongan girl, Hermana Tongi, from wellington! We are the only NZers in the mission. Ramos and Tongi only moved into the flat we are in about a day before I came and Tongi left, so it is nice but REALLY dirty and has like nothing to eat off or clean with. So today we went shopping for all the stuff we need and cleaning supplies and we will go home soon to clean it really well. We also have a cockroach problem... so someone is going to come and sort that out this week

Ive met lots of lovely people and know that once I adjust to the poverty of this town I will enjoy living here more. We are teaching a 78 year old to read which is really interesting haha. He lives in a tiny shack that he built himself and his place is surrounded by dogs. I have been playing nurse for a lady who lives way out in the country. She has had really serious surgery on her foot and there are no health nurses and her husband didnt know what to do to clean it and change it and they have 2 small boys. So I went round there and took the gross dressing off and cleaned it and redressed it. I wore gloves, dont worry, it was nasty. There was loads of dry blood which meant the dressing was glued to the stiches and I had to soak it in saline and it smelled really bad. They live in a wooden shack out on a farm so the bandage was really dirty, but it i a much nicer house than many around here. They bought all the stuff for me to clean it and re-dress it, but I but some of my iodine solution and antibiotic cream on it too. She sees the DR this week, but the surgery was about a month ago or so I think. She is lucky itisnt infected.

Soon we will be giving english lessons at the church for the kids! I am looking forward to that. We have been teaching a few people about the church and met some others when we were on the bus going to a meeting and they want to learn too, so thats exciting!

My Zone has about 30 missionaries and 10 in my district. We meet once a week to catch up and the district and zone leaders call every night to make sure we are okay. There are two other missionaries in our area so we have lunch with them each day. I am great friends with everyone, we all have a great time! The mornings and evenings when I am not out working are the hardest because I have a lot of time to think about home and it makes me a bit sad.

I hope that everyone is doing well, i appreciate your emails, I print them so I can reread them durring the week.

I love you all and miss you all so much!
